Signs of Mood Swing You Need to Be Aware of
Mood swing is one of the common symptoms of pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS), and is often regarded casually. But how does the mood swing affect your daily life or activities? If the mood swing has significant effect in your life, like disturbing your performance at work or your relationship with friends and significant other, you might have experienced premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). And if that continues even after your period is over, that can be a sign of depression or bipolar disorder.
PMDD have similar symptoms with PMS, but often more severe. Some experts even link PMDD with suicide incident that is higher among women. Although the actual causes of PMS and PMDD are not discovered yet, many women have found various ways to reduce the effects like doing sport, changing diet, and having sufficient rest.
To tell whether your mood swing is a symptom of PMS or PMDD, watch out for these signs:
The symptom is emotional
If your experience regular PMS, you will experience some physical symptoms like flatulence, soreness in breasts, then followed by emotional symptoms like mood swing. However, according to Texas A & M Health Center obstetrician and gynecologist Patricia Sulak, if you only experience emotional symptoms that really affect your daily life, it must be likely PMDD.
You experience severe depression
If you feel down about a week before your period and feel allright afterward, it is just PMS. But, if you feel severely depressed until it affects your performance or daily routine, it might be PMDD.
It is difficult to concentrate
We are used to forget someone’s name or where we have put something. But, if it starts to mess your daily life seriously, you better consult the doctor.
The duration is longer
Whatever symptoms you have experienced, they should be dissapeared in one or two days after you get your period. When the symptoms even when your do not experience your period, perhaps you have experienced anxiety disorder that has strong link with PMDD.
You are easy to explode
It is usual to be easily irritated than usual during PMS. However, if you feel that you want to cry all the time, or getting easily angry even for only small problems, or getting easily overwhelmed and brought down by daily burdens, it can be the symptoms of PMDD.
